Captain America Redesign by RtRadke Captain America Redesign by RtRadke
Redesign of Captain America for Project Rooftop's upcoming contest. I'm really excited about this one, as Cap is one of my favorite characters.

Please give me some constructive criticism, I still have plenty of time to redraw this in time for the contest. I'd like to at least get an honorable mention.

This is meant to be a modern day Steve Rogers. In heavy combat he'd wear a helmet.

This costume is much better than the original, especially since it makes more sense considering his 1940's military setting.

It looks really good. Sort of a practical modern day Cap. I'd be interested to see your helmet design.

I dig it. I think if anything you should push the design itself further. The pads and straps and cargo pants look a little too generic.
And the hat, while cool, doesn't work yet. It makes him look a little angry/villainous.

Also: start sketching a BuckyCap variant. We still don't know which cap we're designing yet.

I like your design so far. He does have a certain GIJoe quality to him, but that is not an entirely bad thing. I would add some texture to the midsection. Think about the material and what that looks like. To me it reads like it is something like a cotton fabric. With all that armor, and the modern military theme, I would go a little farther. I would add something along the lines of the BTU's GIs are wearing today. Also, you might want to include a shot of CAP in the helmet somewhere too.

These are just my thoughts about your design. I think as is, it is quality. I am loving the armor, belt and emblems. Keep tweaking it, and I am sure you'll get where you want to be with this. Good luck on the contest.

Thanks for the comments. I've been sketching some more classic "super hero" looking costumes to compare.

I tried a bunch with full face helmets, but they kept ending up looking like Storm Troopers or Power Rangers.

He kinda looks like General Hawk from G.I. Joe wearing a Cpt. America costume.
